Amazingly only one entry withdrawn so far - Tuesday, June 23, 2009
Every one must be in reliable cars this year as we have only had one entry withdrawn with only just over 4 weeks to the event.
Full already - Saturday, May 30, 2009
Well that is a first. Only 2 weeks from the date the regs were published and we have 85 entries and 3 reserves. It is still 8 weeks until Fat Albert 2009. We do hope that prospective competitors continue to put their entries in as we typically lose 15 or more entries leading up to the event and have in fact only every run a full 85 entries once due to withdrawn entries. There are many events in the next 8 weeks so we are guessing that we will lose a record number of entries this year.
How many entries?????? - Wednesday, May 27, 2009
The regs have only been out for 12 days and we already have 64 entries. This is far far more than any previous year of the event at this time. It certainly has kept our new entries secretary busy for several evenings in the past couple of weeks. This is of course great news for us but could come as a big surprise to any competitors who have put off sending their entry yet. We reckon we will be full in a week to 10 days time which is 7 weeks before the event.
Regulations are out - Saturday, May 16, 2009
The big paperwork excersise is complete and the regs are out on time. This year for the first time about 80 sets of regs have been sent out by email. This helps save on postage, paper and printing costs but did not save on time. It definately takes lonmger to get all the email addresses together and sort out sending the emails. Entries Secretary this year is Denise Desbois returning to the job for the first time since the first running of the event in 1998. Get those entries in soon as we expect it to get full very quickly.
Here we go again - Friday, April 10, 2009
Here we go with this years 2009 Fat Albert Stages. This may be the first entry in the Rally News but work started in November last year when the first letter was written requesting permission to use the venue. As usual there will be more changes to the event in 2009. The general new layout of stages and the much larger Service Area will stay the same. We are looking at changing some of the layout on the corners. This is due to the damage that the event is causing to the tarmac and the amount of clearing up this causes on the Sunday and also to make sure that competitors who have done the event before do not have too much of an advantage. Also this year we have a new Clerk of Course, Nick Eccles. Nick has been heavily involved in the event over several years and for the past few years has masterminded and organised the Friday set-up work and has been the main force behind the layout changes. He has also been joint Deputy CofC for the past two years. Trevor Hewer the previous CofC will be joint Deputy this year. Alan Desbois will continue as the other joint Deputy as he has done the last two years. Look out too for some more road repairs. There is no major work required this year following the massive amount of tarmac we layed in 2007/8 but we will be patching the worst damage that could be car damaging.
